Chandigar, 28 April (H.S.:): The Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, on Tuesday approved the convening of a special one-day session of the state Legislative Assembly on May 1 to mark Labour Day. The decision was taken during a Council of Ministers meeting chaired by the Chief Minister.

Sharing the update, the Chief Minister said that the special session will be dedicated to honouring the hardworking labourers and artisans who play a crucial role in the country’s socio-economic development. He described the move as a significant step to recognize the contribution of the working class.

As part of the initiative, representatives of labour unions will be invited to attend the session as special guests. The Assembly will also deliberate on important issues affecting workers, including the impact of changes in the MGNREGA scheme and broader national and international challenges faced by the labour community.

Officials from the Chief Minister’s Office stated that the session aims to acknowledge the immense contribution of workers in nation-building and to provide a platform for meaningful discussions on their welfare. The effects of restructuring in employment schemes and its implications on the working class will also be a key focus area.

In addition, the session will take up essential legislative business as determined by the Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly, following established procedures. The government believes that the special session will not only strengthen democratic processes but also highlight the importance of safeguarding the interests of workers.
