
Manhandling Dy Engineer, provoking breach of peace

Rane has been slapped imprisonment for one month and a fine of Rs 1 lakh, under
Section 504 of the Indian Penal Code. Rane, however, was acquitted in pouring
muck on PWD Deputy Engineer Prakash Shedekar holding him responsible for bad
condition of the Mumbai-Goa National Highway. The Court has granted permission
to file appear against the decision in the High Court.
Nitesh Rane in July 2019, then a member of Indian
National Congress, had poured muck on Deputy Engineer Prakash Shedekar and
manhandled him, Many Congress workers joint him in the incident. Following
complaint by Shedekar police had registered am offence against Rane and 40
others under Sections 353, 332, and 506 of IPC.
Rane and others were acquitted by the court. However,
the court punished Rane under Section 506. Based on application by Rane’s
counsel period for preferring appeal in the High Court the enforcement of
punishment was stayed.
