New Delhi, 28 April (H.S.):

Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita stated on Tuesday that the partnership between India and Africa is entering a decisive and transformative phase. Speaking at the 'Yuva Bharat Global Forum' held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, he emphasized that this relationship is deeply rooted in a shared history of cultural exchange, commerce, and a mutual struggle against colonialism. He described Africa as a central pillar of India’s global policy, asserting that their ongoing cooperation is grounded in the core principles of equality, mutual respect, and co-development.

The forum, organized by the Chakbal Group to foster global dialogue, saw active participation from diplomats, policy-makers, think-tank representatives, trade organizations, and media professionals. Minister Margherita highlighted the alignment between India’s ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ vision and Africa’s ‘Agenda 2063,’ noting that both frameworks prioritize inclusive and sustainable growth. He underscored that India’s development partnership with the continent focuses on capacity building, job creation, technology transfer, and digital empowerment—prioritizing regional empowerment over traditional donor-recipient dynamics.

Highlighting the expansion of diplomatic reach, the Minister noted that India has inaugurated 17 new missions in Africa, bringing the total to 46. He cited the effectiveness of schemes like the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in promoting human resource development. Furthermore, he recognized the 30-million-strong Indian diaspora in Africa as a vital bridge for economic and cultural connectivity.

The event featured representatives from several African nations, including Angola, Kenya, and Ethiopia, alongside international organizations such as AARDO and AALCO. Minister Margherita concluded that such platforms are essential for making the India-Africa partnership more dynamic and future-oriented, reaffirming India’s commitment to a partnership that remains responsive to the evolving geopolitical and geoeconomic challenges of the modern world.
