Washington DC, 26 April (H.S.): President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance were safely evacuated from the Washington Hilton on Saturday night after reports of gunfire disrupted the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner.

The incident, which occurred as hundreds of journalists, celebrities, and national leaders gathered for the event, prompted a swift response from the U.S. Secret Service.

Secret Service agents immediately swarmed the ballroom to secure the President and other high-ranking officials as guests sought cover under tables . Witnesses at the scene reported hearing between five and eight gunshots . Security measures were intensified inside and outside the venue, with members of the National Guard taking positions within the building while authorities restricted re-entry to the premises .

President Trump confirmed via his social media channel that he, the First Lady, and the Vice President are in perfect condition following the evacuation . In his statement, the President noted that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the shooting .

Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the circumstances of the event, though no immediate reports of injuries among the attendees have been confirmed.
