Cachar (Assam), 24 April (HS): A person was apprehended during a police operation under Banskandi Outpost of Lakhipur Police Station in Cachar district for allegedly transporting NDPS substances, officials said on Friday.

Acting on specific information received, police launched an operation in the area and intercepted the accused along with a two-wheeler. During a search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, the police recovered 10 soap cases containing suspected contraband weighing 377.4 grams.

In addition to the suspected narcotics, one factory-made pistol along with four rounds of ammunition was also seized from the possession of the accused. The two-wheeler, identified as an N Torq scooty bearing registration number AS-11AD-4061, was also seized.

Preliminary testing using a field drug detection (DD) kit indicated the presence of heroin, as the substance turned deep violet during examination. Police stated that further legal action under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act is being initiated.-----------
