Guwahati, 23 April (HS): Severe storm activity lashed several parts of Assam on Wednesday late night, causing widespread damage to property and disruption of essential services, while a tragic road accident claimed the life of a biker in Chirang district.

According to reports, a motorcyclist was killed in Chirang after his bike rammed into a tree that had been uprooted and fallen onto the road due to the strong winds. The sudden obstruction caused by the storm led to the fatal accident.

In Barpeta’s Sarthebari area, intense winds blew away the tin roof sheets of a local temple, reflecting the destructive force of the storm. Several houses also suffered damage as heavy rain accompanied the gusty winds across the region.

The storm and rainfall have disrupted normal life in multiple areas, with road blockages reported due to fallen trees. Power supply has also been affected in several localities, further adding to the difficulties faced by residents. Authorities are assessing the damage and working to restore normalcy.-----------
