New Delhi, 21 April (H.S.):

The central government has installed Truck Mounted Attenuators (TMAs) across nine National Highway projects spanning 681 km in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, safeguarding construction workers and commuters from high-speed collisions.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced Tuesday that 33 fixed TMAs and 15 towable units now operate at work zones. These devices act as mobile crash cushions, absorbing collision energy to minimize crash severity while wig-wag warning lights alert drivers in darkness, fog, or high-speed corridors.

All units meet international MASH Test Level-3 and NCHRP 350 Test Level-3 standards, withstanding impacts up to 100 km/h.

TMAs—mounted behind service trucks—protect highway laborers and vehicles by dramatically reducing rear-end collision consequences. This deployment prioritizes zero-fatality corridors, addressing India's alarming work-zone accident statistics through proven global safety technology.
