New Delhi, 20 April (H.S.):
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat on Monday described Sanskrit as an ever-enduring ornament of human life, saying that it is not merely a language but the foundation of India’s ancient tradition, knowledge and worldview.
He made the remarks while inaugurating Sanskrit Bharati’s central office, “Pranav,” located on Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Marg in New Delhi. Addressing the gathering after the ritualistic inauguration on the auspicious morning of Akshaya Tritiya, Bhagwat said the occasion was highly significant and inspiring. He noted that work begun on such a day remains imperishable and expressed confidence that the new office would play a lasting role in promoting Sanskrit.
He said the name “Pranav” symbolises the primordial sound of creation.
Bhagwat emphasised that buildings and resources are created for work; work does not depend on them. He said the true strength of any organisation lies in the dedication and commitment of its workers. According to him, the construction of an office is a sign of progress, but it should be viewed as a means, not an end.
He added that India is not merely a geographical entity but a living tradition. To understand and carry this tradition forward, knowledge of Sanskrit is essential. Sanskrit Bharati’s mission, he said, is not limited to teaching a language, but to establishing Indian culture and values in society.
Sharing his personal views, Bhagwat said the idea that Sanskrit is difficult is a misconception. The easiest way to learn a language is through conversation. He added that Sanskrit Bharati’s conversational camps have, in a short time, generated interest in Sanskrit among people, and this effort should continue.
In his address, he said Sanskrit is the link that connects all Indian languages. Since words from Sanskrit exist in every Indian language, it serves as a foundation of unity and harmony. He said the spread of Sanskrit does not weaken other languages; rather, it enriches them.
He urged the workers to make the new office a centre for Sanskrit conversation, where every visitor is inspired to learn and connect with the language. He said the environment should be such that more and more people are drawn to Sanskrit, allowing it to once again become a language of the masses.
Expressing confidence, he said the efforts of the workers would enable Sanskrit Bharati’s mission to grow steadily and achieve its goal.
Among those present on the occasion were All India Sanskrit Bharati president Prof. Ramesh Kumar Pandey and Sanskrit Bharati Trust Delhi provincial president Praneev Kant. The proposal was presented by All India organisational secretary Jayaprakash Gautam.
