New Delhi, 20 April (H.S.):

An additional sessions judge at Dwarka Court, Rajat Goyal, has dismissed a plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to a minor accused in a February road accident case. The plea had been filed by the mother of the deceased, and the court had reserved its order on April 17.

In her petition, Inna Makan, the mother of the deceased Sahil Danesra, had argued that the Juvenile Justice Board had unlawfully granted bail to the minor accused. She claimed that the Board had not properly examined the evidence related to the offence while granting bail.

The petition also stated that the investigation in the case is still at a preliminary stage, and that the accused minor is a habitual offender. It further alleged that the vehicle involved in the accident had been linked to multiple incidents and had several challans for offences including overspeeding and driving without a licence.

Questioning the Juvenile Justice Board’s order, the petition said the minor accused showed no remorse when he was produced before the Board on February 4, despite the loss of a life. It also alleged that no notice was issued to the petitioner when bail was granted on February 10.

Sahil’s mother further claimed in the plea that, under such circumstances, she feared that the accused’s father and his associates were trying to influence the investigation.

Sahil died in a road accident on February 3. He was riding a motorcycle when a high-speed SUV hit him. The SUV was being driven by a minor. Another cab driver was also seriously injured in the accident.
