
Kolkata, 20 April (H.S.) :
A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan allegedly attempted suicide while deployed for election duty in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Monday, police said.
The incident took place in the Shaktipur police station area under the Rejinagar Assembly constituency. According to officials, a camp of central forces has been set up at Bazarshaw Higher Secondary High School in the area.
Sources said the jawan, a Head Constable of the 142 Battalion of the CRPF and a resident of South India, allegedly shot himself with his service rifle. The bullet reportedly pierced through his left shoulder.
He had returned from Assam around a month ago after completing election duty there, sources added.
The injured jawan was rushed to Berhampore Medical College and Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is stated to be stable.
