Jalaun, April 17 (HS): Three

suspected members of an interstate gang involved in stealing were caught during

an encounter with police here on Friday, officials said. Superintendent of

Police Vinay Kumar Singh said a joint team from the Kotwali Orai police station

and the surveillance unit cordoned off a location near a local medical college

campus where three suspects were discovered seated in bushes, apparently

preparing a heist. When the accused spotted the police, he opened fire with the

intent to kill, forcing the officers to respond in self-defense, he said.

During

the exchange, all three suspects received gunshot wounds to their legs and were

eventually captured, the officer added. The wounded, Bharat Bhil (30), Anil

Bhil (25), and Dinesh Bhil (25), all from Madhya Pradesh, were admitted to a

medical college.

Police discovered two country-made.315 bore handguns, a.32 bore revolver, 25

rounds (both live and used), Rs 60,000 in cash, and theft tools from the scene.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to being involved in

theft cases in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and

Bihar, according to police.

The discovered handgun was reportedly taken from the Azamgarh medical college

campus, according to officials, who added that a complaint has been filed and

further investigation is continuing.
