
Jalaun, April 17 (HS): Three
suspected members of an interstate gang involved in stealing were caught during
an encounter with police here on Friday, officials said. Superintendent of
Police Vinay Kumar Singh said a joint team from the Kotwali Orai police station
and the surveillance unit cordoned off a location near a local medical college
campus where three suspects were discovered seated in bushes, apparently
preparing a heist. When the accused spotted the police, he opened fire with the
intent to kill, forcing the officers to respond in self-defense, he said.
During
the exchange, all three suspects received gunshot wounds to their legs and were
eventually captured, the officer added. The wounded, Bharat Bhil (30), Anil
Bhil (25), and Dinesh Bhil (25), all from Madhya Pradesh, were admitted to a
medical college.
Police discovered two country-made.315 bore handguns, a.32 bore revolver, 25
rounds (both live and used), Rs 60,000 in cash, and theft tools from the scene.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to being involved in
theft cases in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and
Bihar, according to police.
The discovered handgun was reportedly taken from the Azamgarh medical college
campus, according to officials, who added that a complaint has been filed and
further investigation is continuing.
