
Aizawl, 17 April (HS): A significant quantity of Myanmar currency was seized in Mizoram and one Myanmar national has been arrested in connection with the case. The operation was carried out jointly by Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police based on specific intelligence inputs.
According to sources in Assam Rifles, the operation was conducted at Zokhawthar in Champhai district. The joint team, which was stationed at Crossing Point No. 2, intercepted a Myanmar national and recovered Myanmar currency valued at approximately ₹11.30 lakh from his possession. The currency was allegedly being smuggled illegally across the border.
The arrested individual, along with the seized currency, has been handed over to Zokhawthar Police Station in Champhai district for further investigation and necessary legal action.
In a separate operation, Assam Rifles in coordination with the Customs Preventive Force seized a large consignment of illegal betel nuts in the Ruanthlang area of Champhai district. During a search of a truck, the team recovered 52 sacks of contraband betel nuts.
The seized betel nuts are estimated to be worth ₹29.12 lakh. The consignment has been handed over to the Customs Preventive Force for further legal proceedings.-----------
