Chirang (Assam), 17 April (HS): In a significant development following the recent violence at Runikhata in Assam’s Chirang district, the district administration has suspended internet services in both Chirang and Kokrajhar districts as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.

The decision was taken in the aftermath of the violent incident at the Runikhata Forest Range Office, which had led to tensions in the region. Officials stated that the temporary suspension of internet services is aimed at preventing the spread of misinformation and maintaining public peace.

According to sources, the district administration enforced the internet shutdown as part of broader efforts to control the situation and avoid any further escalation. Authorities believe that restricting digital communication will help curb rumours and ensure stability in the affected areas.
