New Delhi, 16 April (H.S.):

The Supreme Court rejected a petition contesting the Election Commission's order transferring West Bengal's Chief Secretary and Director General of Police. A bench presided by Chief Justice Suryakant dismissed the plea outright.

During hearing, CJI Suryakant noted such transfers occur routinely nationwide, not unprecedented. The court endorsed petitioner's contention that the ECI should have consulted the state government first, keeping that legal point open for future consideration.

Filed by advocate Arka Kumar Nag after Calcutta High Court dismissal—citing replacements already in place—the ruling underscores ECI's poll-time authority while signaling procedural dialogue norms.
