New Delhi, 16 April (H.S.):
Advocate Sachin Gupta, who withdrew 25 public interest litigations (PILs) from the Supreme Court just a week ago, pulled back another 17 PILs on Thursday. Appearing before a bench led by Chief Justice Suryakant, Gupta stated his intent to first approach relevant authorities.
The court granted permission, echoing prior advice to prioritize administrative channels over rushed judicial filings.
On April 10, the same bench had dismissed four of Gupta's PILs as frivolous, urging him to focus on legal practice: Approach government and administration first; return if they fail to act. CJI Suryakant emphasized lawyers' role in issue identification and sensitizing authorities, reserving court time for genuine crises.
