New Delhi, 16 April (H.S.):
The Delhi High Court declined to halt ongoing trial court proceedings in the assault case against Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. A bench led by Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani also ordered dismissal of the accused's petition challenging the trial court's order framing charges.
Tis Hazari Court on December 26, 2025, directed charges against Rajesh Khimji and Tahsin Syed for the attack. Tahsin faces Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 221, 132, 109(1); Rajesh 109(1), 115(2), 221, 132—covering attempt to murder, obstructing public servant, and criminal conspiracy.
Delhi Police's 400-page chargesheet, filed October 18, 2025, details Rajesh's motive: a dream where a dog beside a Shivling urged action as Delhi's strays suffered. He viewed Facebook videos blaming Gupta and had fasted in Ayodhya over monkeys in May.
Outraged by Gupta's support for Supreme Court's August 11, 2025, stray dogs shelter order, Rajesh attacked during her August 20 public hearing. Police allege conspiracy with Tahsin in the Civil Lines breach. Next hearing set for May 21.
