Kolkata, 15 April (H.S.) : With the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 approaching, political rhetoric has intensified across the state. BJP MP Anurag Thakur launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging a complete breakdown of law and order and predicting an imminent change in government.

Speaking to reporters, Thakur said, “May 4 will come and Mamata Banerjee will go,” asserting that the current regime is nearing its end. He accused the state government of encouraging illegal activities and engaging in appeasement politics.

“The identity of Mamata Banerjee’s governance has become one of protecting Bangladeshi infiltrators, fake currency rackets, and those involved in fraudulent Aadhaar cards. It is also about shielding individuals accused of crimes against women,” Thakur alleged. He further claimed that employment opportunities meant for residents of West Bengal were being diverted to outsiders.

Raising concerns over governance, he questioned, “When a government is busy protecting corrupt elements, who is truly safe in West Bengal? Appeasement politics is at the core here.”

Commenting on the Women’s Reservation Bill, Thakur highlighted initiatives undertaken by the Central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said schemes related to LPG connections, tap water, free food grains, healthcare, and sanitation have significantly benefited women and underprivileged sections, adding that around 25 crore people have been lifted above the poverty line.

He also reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies before the 2029 general elections. In this regard, a special session of Parliament has been scheduled from April 16 to 18 to advance the process.

As polling draws closer, the war of words between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress continues to escalate, further heating up the political climate in the state.
