Dental student death in Kannur,Kerala :Police intensify probe
Nithin Raj

Kannur, 14 April (H.S.):The investigation into the death of dental student Nithin Raj at a private dental college in Ancharakandi has intensified, with police preparing to record statements from a wider group of individuals, including students and faculty members. The development comes as part of efforts to gather comprehensive evidence before initiating arrests in the case.

A police team that had travelled to Thiruvananthapuram in connection with the probe is expected to return to Kannur on Tuesday to continue the investigation. Officials indicated that their immediate priority is to collect as much material evidence and witness testimony as possible before taking action against those accused in the case.

Nithin Raj was found dead in what is being treated as a case of suicide. However, the circumstances surrounding his death have triggered serious allegations against certain faculty members of the college. Despite being named in the case, the accused teachers are reportedly absconding, prompting the police to intensify their search. Two key suspects, including the head of a department, remain untraceable. There are also indications that the accused may approach the court seeking anticipatory bail.

Meanwhile, students of the institution have come forward with grave allegations against members of the faculty, particularly targeting the head of the Dental Anatomy department, identified as M.K. Ram. According to several students, the accused had allegedly subjected students to sustained mental harassment and inappropriate conduct within the classroom.

Students claim that regular teaching was often neglected, with classroom time instead being used for unrelated discussions, including remarks on religion and body shaming. They allege that such behaviour created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation, discouraging students from speaking out earlier.

The revelations have sparked widespread concern, raising questions about academic oversight and student welfare within the institution. Police officials stated that all allegations will be thoroughly examined as part of the ongoing probe.

Authorities have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected, while also emphasizing the importance of ensuring justice for the deceased student and accountability for any wrongdoing.
