
Cachar (Assam), April 11 (HS): Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding narcotics smuggling, security forces carried out an early morning operation near Bariknagar Part-2 in Silchar on Saturday, leading to the arrest of two alleged drug peddlers and seizure of suspected heroin.
The operation was conducted at around 8:20 AM, during which two individuals—Jubed Ahmed Laskar, a resident of Dakhin Mohanpur under Sonai, and Burhan Uddin from Dholaimolai Part-1 in Katlicharra, Hailakandi district—were apprehended while travelling towards Silchar on a motorcycle.
Upon thorough search, officials recovered 19 soap cases containing a total of 216 grams of a substance suspected to be heroin. In addition, two mobile handsets, a motorcycle bearing registration number AS 24E 9884 and cash amounting to ₹500 were seized from their possession.
Authorities stated that all seized items were taken into custody following due legal procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is around ₹1.08 crore.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and network involved in the smuggling operation.------------
