Hooghly, 11 April (H.S.):In a development ahead of the elections, Trinamool Congress leader Dipen Maiti has resigned from the core committee of Khanakul-I block, citing personal reasons, triggering political speculation in the area.
Maiti sent his resignation letter to the party’s state president Subrata Bakshi and other senior leaders, and also made it public on social media on Saturday.
He was recently seen actively campaigning for party candidate Palash Roy and was considered instrumental in strengthening the party’s position in areas like Kishorpur-I and II panchayats, Ghoshpur and Thakuranichak.
His sudden resignation at a crucial juncture has led to intense speculation within political circles. While Maiti has cited health issues and personal reasons for stepping down, sources indicate that internal dissatisfaction within the party may have played a role.
There are also reports of discontent over the functioning of I-PAC and the increasing influence of certain sections within the party supporting the candidate, which allegedly irked Maiti and his supporters.
Meanwhile, a recently surfaced viral call recording has added to the controversy. In the clip, a TMC leader is purportedly heard expressing willingness to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. Some claim the voice could be that of Maiti, though no official confirmation has been made.
The resignation has fuelled debate over possible factionalism within the party in Khanakul. Maiti has said he will soon address a press conference to clarify his position.
