New Delhi, 11 April (H.S.):
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi State President Virendra Sachdeva welcomed the Delhi government’s new draft Electric Vehicle (EV) policy and stated that within three to seven years, this EV policy will render vehicle pollution on Delhi’s roads negligible.
Issuing a statement on Saturday, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said that under this policy, registration fees and road tax have been waived for private two-wheelers and four-wheelers, which will encourage people to purchase electric vehicles for personal use. Meanwhile, by providing substantial discounts on road tax and registration fees for commercial goods-carrying EVs, the Delhi government has promoted a shift even in commercial vehicles.
Sachdeva remarked that auto-rickshaws form a crucial link in Delhi’s public transport system, and registering e-autos with full exemption from January 1, 2027, will make the public transport system cleaner.
He added that encouraging EVs in three- and four-wheeler commercial goods-carrying vehicles will also aid in controlling pollution on the roads.
The Delhi BJP President stated that the best aspect of this new EV policy is that the Delhi government will now procure only EVs for its own use, while public transport buses and N1 trucks will also be exclusively electric, thereby reducing vehicle pollution on roads by more than 10 percent within two years.
