
Guwahati, 11 April (HS): The city of Guwahati is set to celebrate the vibrant Rongali Bihu festival with great enthusiasm at Natun Chachal, where a two-day cultural programme will be held on April 14 and 15, 2026 under the aegis of Nutan Chachal Sangskritik Gosthi.
An executive committee comprising 101 members has already been formed for the celebration, with Trisha Devi as President, Anjan Borokakoti as Vice President, Jitul Roy as General Secretary, Bhaskarjit Tahbildar as Treasurer and Diganta Baishya as Cultural Secretary.
The celebrations aim to promote Assamese culture and provide a platform for local youth to showcase their talents. Preparations formally commenced with the installation of the traditional Bihu ‘laikhuta’ on Friday, accompanied by rituals and chanting of mangalik mantras. The inaugural ceremony was graced by noted vocalist Trishna Devi.
As part of the pre-festival activities, a 10-day Bihu dance workshop was conducted, where over 50 students were trained by experts Jonmoni Bora, Ajay Roy, and Bihu Samraggi Gayotri Konwar. The workshop concluded with a grand finale featuring performances by the participants.
The upcoming festival will include a variety of cultural programmes such as traditional games, folk dances and musical performances by popular artists Bhoomi Kaushik and Aditi Tasa. Competitions in modern and folk dance will also be organized, with attractive prizes for the winners.
Organisers expect a large turnout and have appealed to the public to participate in large numbers to make the celebration a grand success.-----------
