
Hooghly, 11 April (H.S.): Trinamool Congress candidate Shirshanya Bandopadhyay has filed his nomination from the Uttarpara Assembly constituency, declaring detailed information on income, assets and investments in his election affidavit.
According to the affidavit, Bandopadhyay and his family own assets worth over Rs 7.9 crore, with no liabilities.
The 38-year-old candidate is a lawyer by profession and holds a postgraduate degree in corporate and financial law. He completed his LLB from a college affiliated to University of Calcutta and pursued LLM from O.P. Jindal Global University. He has declared that no criminal cases are pending against him.
As per the affidavit, his income for the financial year 2024–25 stood at Rs 97.37 lakh, while it was Rs 1.09 crore in 2023–24, reflecting a significant rise over the past five years. His spouse, Somasukla Bhaduri, a salaried employee, reported an income of Rs 11.69 lakh for 2024–25.
Bandopadhyay has declared movable assets worth around Rs 5.03 crore in his name, including bank deposits, fixed deposits, shares, mutual funds, insurance and other investments. His spouse holds movable assets exceeding Rs 1.22 crore.
In terms of immovable assets, he owns a flat in Kolkata with an estimated market value of about Rs 1.5 crore, while his spouse owns a flat in Bolpur valued at approximately Rs 16 lakh.
The affidavit highlights a diversified investment portfolio comprising equities, mutual funds, ETFs and debentures. Notably, insurance premiums worth over Rs 2.64 crore have been paid in his name by his father.
The affidavit further states that neither the candidate nor his family has any outstanding loans or government dues, with taxes duly paid.
Political observers believe that with a clean image, strong financial standing and professional background, Bandopadhyay could make the contest in Uttarpara more competitive.
