New Delhi, 10 April (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday commended Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and outgoing Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh upon their swearing-in as members of the Upper House, lauding their exemplary contributions to governance and public discourse.

In separate messages on X, PM Modi hailed Kumar as one of India's most seasoned leaders, whose unwavering dedication to exemplary administration has garnered widespread acclaim. He credited Kumar with indelible strides in Bihar's advancement, expressing delight at his parliamentary return after prior stints as MP and Union Minister. His extensive political acumen will further elevate the House's prestige, Modi affirmed, wishing him success in the tenure ahead.

Turning to Harivansh, a distinguished journalist and intellectual, PM Modi praised his profound insights that have enriched Rajya Sabha proceedings. Nominated by President Droupadi Murmu to fill a vacancy created by former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi's retirement—whose term ended April 9—Harivansh's reappointment to one of the 12 presidential slots recognizes eminence in fields like journalism and public service.

The duo took oaths Friday in Parliament House, administered by Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar (noted as CP Radhakrishnan in some contexts), marking pivotal moments amid Bihar's political transitions.
