
Mumbai, 01 Apr (HS): Fraud ‘Godman’ Nashik’s Ashok
Kharat, who has been facing charges of sexual exploitation of women, cheating
and amassing property worth crores of rupees, has been remanded Magisterial Custody
for 14 days. His police custody ends on April 1. A Special Investigation Team
(SIT) is investigating into the charges against Kharat.
Kharat was presented before the Nashik District
Court on Wednesday. Government Plader Shailendra Bagde said that several cases
have been registered against Kharat, of which in one case he was remaonded to
the Magisterial Custody. On Thursday he will be presented in the court in
another case with a demand for police custody.
Kharat was arrested on March 18, following a
complaint received by Sarkar Wada Police Station in Nashik on March 17.
Meanwhile, his Ashok Kharat’s son Harshavardhan was
taken in custody on Tuesday by the police for interrogation. His wife Kalpana
Kharati has been reported absconding. She is also wanted for investigation in
charged filed against Ashok Kharat.
Rupali Chakankar, who had to resign as Maharashtra
Women’s Commission Chief, was interrogated for her alleged association with
Kharat.
