Dibrugarh/Delhi, 01 April (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address two election rallies in Assam on Wednesday as campaigning gathers momentum ahead of the April 9 Assembly elections.

The Prime Minister reached Dibrugarh on Tuesday evening and stayed overnight before beginning his campaign programme in the state.

According to the schedule, Modi will first travel to Gogamukh in Dhemaji district where he is expected to address a public meeting focusing on candidates from Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts. BJP candidates Dr Ranoj Pegu and Naba Kumar Doley are among those in the fray from these areas.

After the Gogamukh programme, the Prime Minister is expected to proceed to Biswanath for another election meeting. The rally is expected to cover the Biswanath, Behali and Gohpur constituencies where BJP candidates Ranjit Dutta, Pallab Lochan Das and Utpal Bora are contesting.

Political activity in Assam has increased in recent days with several senior BJP leaders visiting the state as part of the campaign. Union leaders Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh have already addressed meetings in different districts.

Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam is scheduled for April 9 and parties are now intensifying outreach programmes in different regions.

Local organisers said preparations for the Biswanath meeting at Kulaguri ground in Behali have been completed and security arrangements have been made in view of the Prime Minister’s visit. Large turnout is expected at the rally.
