Bhubaneswar, 01 April (H.S.): The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has strongly criticised the state government over the sudden adjournment of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, alleging that the ruling dispensation is avoiding discussions on key issues in the House.

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Prasanna Acharya, accused the government of deliberately preventing debates and denying the opposition an opportunity to raise important matters.

Acharya alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not officially condemned the remarks made by MP Nishikant Dubey, which the BJD has described as insulting to former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik. He further claimed that the government is unwilling to hold discussions on issues related to the ACB and Biju Babu.

He said the alleged derogatory remarks about Biju Patnaik were widely discussed during Zero Hour in the Assembly. The Speaker had accepted a condemnation motion and referred it to the Business Advisory Committee for further consideration.

However, Acharya alleged that despite this, the government abruptly adjourned the Assembly late at night. He said the move reflects the government’s reluctance to allow the House to function and hold meaningful discussions.

The BJD leader stated that while the opposition was keen to actively participate in debates in the Assembly, the government allegedly chose to shut down the House instead.

He further remarked that the government is not a “double-engine government” as it claims, but rather a “two-faced government” that is attempting to avoid discussions on critical issues.
