New Delhi, 07 March (H.S.): Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur will represent India at the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-70) at UN Headquarters in New York from March 9 to 12.
The Commission, a premier global intergovernmental body dedicated to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment, will focus on ensuring justice access for all women and girls through inclusive legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws and practices, and dismantling structural barriers.
Thakur will deliver India's statement during the Commission's discussions and address a high-level meeting on Violence against Women and Girls. Her remarks will spotlight India's initiatives in women-led development, enhanced justice access, and measures for the safety, dignity, and empowerment of women and girls.
She will also participate in a side event titled Women-Led Development and Success Stories of the South-South Cooperation Fund, organized by India's Permanent Mission to the UN in New York. The event will showcase successful developmental collaborations under the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Fund, particularly those strengthening women's empowerment and inclusive growth in Global South nations.
CSW-70's review theme aligns with the 65th session's agreed conclusions, evaluating progress on women's full and effective participation in public life and decision-making, alongside efforts to eliminate violence against women and girls.
