
New Delhi, 06 March (H.S.): Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will visit Chennai on Saturday, where he will interact with farmers at IIT Madras. He will also meet various stakeholders to gather suggestions on the Coconut Development Scheme.
In a conversation with the media on Friday, Chouhan stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Coconut Development Scheme for coconut producers, announced in the budget. The scheme will consider every aspect related to coconut production to enhance productivity and farmers' income.
He mentioned that discussions with farmers and stakeholders will take place at IIT Chennai and sought suggestions from farmers on this matter.Notably, the Coconut Development Scheme announced in Budget 2026 aims to replace old and low-yielding coconut trees with new high-yielding varieties, improving productivity and quality.
The initiative focuses on increasing coconut farmers' income, diversifying agricultural production, and creating new employment opportunities.
