Kolkata, 05 March (H.S.): West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose resigned from his post on Thursday, triggering political reactions in the state. According to sources, Bose travelled to New Delhi and submitted his resignation to the Centre.

Following his resignation, the Union government appointed R. N. Ravi as the interim Governor of West Bengal. Ravi, who currently serves as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, will hold additional charge of the state for the time being. The development comes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal.

Reacting to the sudden development, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised questions over the circumstances surrounding the resignation. In a public statement, Banerjee said she was shocked and deeply concerned by the news of Bose stepping down from the post.

She said that the reasons behind the resignation were not known to her at the moment but added that, considering the prevailing circumstances, she would not be surprised if the Governor had faced pressure from the Union government to serve certain political interests ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Banerjee further stated that the Union Home Minister informed her about the appointment of R. N. Ravi as the new Governor of West Bengal but did not consult her beforehand, which she said was against established conventions.

The Chief Minister also alleged that such actions undermine the spirit of the Constitution and weaken the federal structure of the country. She urged the Centre to respect the principles of cooperative federalism and avoid unilateral decisions that could erode democratic conventions and the dignity of states.
