Birbhum, 26 March (H.S.): With the West Bengal assembly elections approaching, Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the BJP during her campaign in Birbhum, invoking Bengali pride.

After kickstarting her campaign in north Bengal, Banerjee moved to south Bengal and addressed rallies from Pandabeswar in West Burdwan to Dubrajpur in Birbhum. At a public meeting in Khoyrasol, she alleged that the BJP had insulted eminent personalities like Amartya Sen and Rabindranath Tagore.

“They have insulted Amartya Sen and Rabindranath. They should not get a single vote. This time, vote for TMC candidates,” she said, appealing to the electorate.

Banerjee also urged voters to support party nominees, including Ashish Bandyopadhyay, Chandranath Sinha, Abhijit Sinha, Abhijit Roy and Nilabati Saha, and called for their victory.

Raising concerns over voter list revisions, she alleged that the BJP was planning steps such as NRC, delimitation and census exercises to remove names from electoral rolls.

“This election is very important,” Banerjee said, adding that people do not support the BJP.
