Guwahati, 26 March (HS): The Assam Chief Secretary’s Office has dismissed concerns over any shortage of petrol and diesel in the state, assuring that supply remains stable and production continues to exceed demand.
In a statement shared on social media, the office clarified that there is “no shortage of diesel and petrol in the market,” reiterating earlier assurances made by the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. A ministry spokesperson had also addressed the issue a day earlier, confirming that the situation is under control. The chief secretary said that Assam has a 73% surplus petroleum.
Officials highlighted that Assam is in a strong position due to its refining capacity. Output from the state’s four refineries—Numaligarh, Noonmati, Digboi and Bongaigaon—remains significantly higher than local consumption of 27%, ensuring uninterrupted availability across all districts.
The statement further noted that there are no disruptions expected in the supply chain, including the transportation of fuel from refineries to retail outlets. Authorities have urged citizens not to resort to panic buying, warning that unusual demand could create artificial and temporary shortages at some outlets and disrupt the distribution system.
Appealing for public cooperation, officials stressed that maintaining normal purchasing patterns will help ensure smooth and uninterrupted fuel supply throughout Assam.------------
