Guwahati, 26 March (HS): In a significant development for Assam and the Northeast, Guwahati has been selected as a venue for international matches in the 2026–27 home season schedule announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The move is being seen as recognition of the region’s improving sports infrastructure and growing importance in the national sporting landscape.

According to the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), the city will host the second One Day International during the West Indies tour of India on September 30, 2026. Officials said hosting such international events is expected to boost the region’s visibility, tourism and local economic activity.

Adding to the excitement, Guwahati will also host the 3rd Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia from February 11 to 15, 2027, part of the five-match series beginning on January 21, 2027.

This marks a key milestone for Assam, reinforcing Guwahati’s growing reputation as a hub for international cricket. Hosting both an ODI and a Test in a single season highlights the region’s capability to organise top-level cricket events.

The ACA expressed gratitude to ICC Chairman Jay Shah and BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia for entrusting Guwahati with these fixtures and pledged to ensure world-class arrangements for players, officials, and spectators.

Cricket enthusiasts in the region can now look forward to witnessing thrilling international action live in Guwahati.-----------
