Thiruvananthapuram, 24 March (H.S.): Senior Congress leader Sunny Joseph will continue as the president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), with the party high command deciding against any leadership change ahead of the Assembly elections. The decision comes even as Joseph contests from the Peravoor constituency, with the leadership expressing confidence in his ability to simultaneously coordinate statewide election activities.

According to party sources, the high command concluded that replacing the KPCC president during the crucial election period could disrupt organisational momentum. Joseph had also conveyed that he was capable of managing both campaign responsibilities in his constituency and overseeing the party’s broader election strategy across the state.

To ensure smooth functioning and effective coordination, the Congress has constituted a four-member committee to assist in managing election-related activities. The panel includes KPCC Vice President Palode Ravi, General Secretary Manakkad Suresh, M.A. Wahid, and Mariyapuram Sreekumar. The committee will primarily handle coordination and day-to-day organisational responsibilities, particularly during Joseph’s absence from the state headquarters.

Traditionally, KPCC presidents stepping into electoral contests are temporarily relieved of their organisational responsibilities, with an interim arrangement put in place. In line with this practice, the party had initially explored alternatives, including senior leaders such as Benny Behanan and Kodikunnil Suresh.

However, Sunny Joseph reportedly maintained a firm position that he would continue in the role, citing the importance of continuity during the election period. Following internal consultations, the leadership agreed to retain him as KPCC president.

The newly formed panel is expected to play a key role in streamlining campaign coordination, ensuring organisational efficiency, and supporting the party’s electoral efforts across Kerala.
