Bhubaneswar, 23 March (H.S.): Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday informed the State Assembly that a substantial number of police positions remain unfilled across Odisha, raising concerns about staffing in law enforcement.

The Chief Minister stated that the state currently has 706 police stations with a total of 14,528 sanctioned posts across various categories. However, 3,176 of these positions are lying vacant.

Responding to a query raised by MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Majhi said the government has initiated steps to address the shortfall. These measures include fresh recruitment drives, promotions, and internal transfers.

The government aims to fill the vacant posts at the earliest to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen policing across the state.
