Eid ul Fitr celebration in Kerala

Kochi, 20 March (H.S):Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, is being celebrated across Kerala today with prayers, gratitude, and a spirit of togetherness. Mosques and Eidgahs across the state have made elaborate arrangements for the special prayers, with thousands of devotees expected to participate in congregations held in the morning.

The announcement of Eid came after the sighting of the crescent moon at Parappanangadi in Malappuram district on Thursday evening. Following this, various Qazis across Kerala officially declared that Eid-ul-Fitr would be observed today. The festival is also being celebrated today in several countries, including the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf nations, bringing a sense of unity among Muslims across regions.

Eid-ul-Fitr is observed after the completion of 29 days of fasting during Ramadan, a period marked by prayer, reflection, charity, and self-discipline. The day begins with special Eid prayers conducted in mosques and open grounds, followed by gatherings of families and communities. The festival symbolizes compassion, forgiveness, and the strengthening of social bonds, as people visit relatives, share festive meals, and extend greetings of goodwill.

In Kerala, the atmosphere is vibrant yet peaceful, as people come together to celebrate the occasion with renewed spiritual energy. For many, Eid is not only a religious observance but also a celebration of unity, love, and generosity. The sense of fulfillment after a month of devotion is reflected in the joyous gatherings and acts of charity that mark the day.

Meanwhile, for Malayali expatriates in Gulf countries, this year’s Eid carries a deeper emotional significance. Amid challenging circumstances and regional tensions, expatriates are observing the festival with resilience and hope. In many Gulf nations, Eid prayers are being conducted under certain restrictions, primarily within mosque premises, with no large open Eidgah gatherings permitted.

Despite these constraints, the spirit of Eid remains undiminished. Malayalis across the Gulf and back home in Kerala are united in celebration, transcending geographical boundaries. The festival continues to serve as a reminder of faith, endurance, and the enduring human values of peace and solidarity.
