
New Delhi, 19 March (H.S.): Indian cricket head coach and former MP Gautam Gambhir petitioned the Delhi High Court to safeguard his personality rights, alleging unauthorized AI and deepfake exploitation of his likeness, voice, and identity across social media and e-commerce for commercial gain and disinformation.
The suit against 16 defendants—including platforms like Meta, X, Google, Amazon, Flipkart, rogue accounts—cites rampant misuse: fake resignation videos (2.9M+ views), fabricated critiques of senior cricketers (1.7M+ views), and merchandise hawked sans consent. Gambhir demands ₹2.5 crore damages plus permanent injunctions, invoking Copyright Act, Trademarks Act, and precedents protecting Baba Ramdev, Kajol, Vivek Oberoi, Pawan Kalyan, Sunil Gavaskar, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Jaya Bachchan, Sudhir Chaudhary, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Nagarjuna, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, and Karan Johar.Gambhir decried his weaponised identity fueling misinformation revenue, seeking ex-parte interim relief for content takedowns pending adjudication.
