New Delhi, 19 March (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its initial roster of 88 candidates for the Assam Legislative Assembly elections on Thursday, spotlighting Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma from the Jalukbari constituency.

The selection crystallized from the Central Election Committee's session chaired by national president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday, graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and fellow members.

Prioritizing incumbency and electoral viability, the lineup features ex-MPs Rameshwar Teli, Pallab Lochan Das, and Rajdeep Roy, complemented by six women aspirants, targeting dominance in the 126-seat house.This strategic disclosure underscores BJP's bid for continuity, blending seasoned leadership with fresh impetus ahead of the polls.
