Hooghly, 18 March (H.S.): Trinamool Congress candidate Indranil Sen on Wednesday said he considers himself his “own competitor” after being fielded for a third consecutive term from the Chandannagar Assembly constituency in West Bengal.

Sen, a singer-turned-politician, was first elected from Chandannagar in 2016 and retained the seat in 2021. He also served as a minister in the state government.

After the announcement of candidates, Sen held a meeting with party workers in the Kalupukur area of Chandannagar and later addressed a press conference.

Highlighting development works in the constituency, he said significant progress has been made over the years but added that any pending work would be taken up. He urged residents to share a list of unfinished projects, assuring that they would be addressed.

Reacting to allegations by a CPI(M) candidate regarding poor healthcare facilities, Sen dismissed the claims, saying adequate government hospitals and health schemes are in place and he would extend personal help if required.

He also accused the Centre of withholding funds due to the state, saying release of pending dues would enable further development in the constituency.

Sen expressed confidence that Mamata Banerjee would return as chief minister for a fourth term after the upcoming Assembly polls.

He appealed to party workers to maintain good relations with voters, reach out to every household and ensure that people are able to exercise their franchise freely.
