Bhubaneswar, 17 March (H.S.): Proceedings in the Odisha Legislative Assembly were disrupted on Tuesday following protests by opposition members over the recent fire at SCB Medical College and Hospital, which reportedly claimed 12 lives and left 20 others injured.
The House witnessed chaotic scenes soon after it convened for the Question Hour around 10:30 am, as MLAs from the BJD and Congress staged protests. Opposition members entered the Well of the House, raised slogans against the government, and demanded the resignation of Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling. Placards highlighting the hospital incident were also displayed.
Speaker Surama Padhy repeatedly appealed to the protesting members to return to their seats and allow the proceedings to continue. However, with the situation remaining unruly, she adjourned the House till 12 noon.
