13 March (HS): According to police, three members of the right-wing Hindu
Raksha Dal were detained on Friday for reportedly painting communal slogans on
a wall in the Biharigarh region. The suspects, including two women, were nabbed
on Thursday night after writing slogans such as Ye sadak Musalmano ke
liye nahi hai (This road is not for Muslims) on the Delhi-Dehradun
Expressway, according to police.
On
February 26, a video from the highway leaked on social media, showing
individuals using spray paint to scrawl communal sentiments along the road.
Later, several Hindu Raksha Dal members claimed responsibility for the act. Police
apprehended the suspects after receiving reports of a breach of peace and
impending unrest. They are accused of plotting to instigate unrest, authorities
added.
Akshay
Sharma, Station House Officer in Biharigarh, named the arrested persons as
Sulekha, Sharda, and Manav Kendra, all of whom are from Dehradun. All three are
between the ages of 25 and thirty. According to police sources, the action was
conducted in response to a complaint filed by an employee of the National
Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at Biharigarh police station.
