Kolkata, 13 March (H.S.): Chandra Kumar Bose, grandnephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has alleged that the freedom fighter’s historic cap is missing from the Netaji museum located in the Red Fort complex in New Delhi.

In a post on social media platform X on Thursday night, Bose claimed that he and members of his family had personally handed over the cap to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to him, the prime minister had placed the cap on display at the Netaji museum at the Red Fort on January 23, 2019, on the occasion of Netaji’s birth anniversary.

Bose said that an advocate associated with the Open Platform for Netaji, Naveen Bamel, recently visited the museum and found the glass case in which the cap was kept empty.

He added that officials of the Archaeological Survey of India were unable to provide a clear explanation regarding the missing item.

Calling the matter serious, Bose said Netaji was one of the country’s greatest leaders and the disappearance of such a historic artefact was “deeply shameful”. He urged the prime minister to intervene and order a probe into the matter.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Thursday declined to hear a plea seeking the return of Netaji’s mortal remains from Japan to India. The plea, filed by petitioner Ashish Ray, was allowed to be withdrawn by a bench headed by Justice Surya Kant after senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi sought permission on behalf of the petitioner.
