Kolkata, 13 March (H.S.): BJP leader Amit Malviya on Friday criticised the West Bengal government over the state’s economic condition, alleging that the economy has been on a path of decline under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
In a post on social media platform X, Malviya claimed that West Bengal has recorded the slowest growth in consumption in the country over the past 12 years.
He also alleged that consumption levels among the state’s urban elite, who are expected to drive growth and investment, have declined since 2011-12.
The BJP leader attributed the situation to what he described as poor governance, a hostile business environment and policy paralysis in the state.
Malviya said a fall in consumption is often seen as an indicator of economic stagnation and added that West Bengal deserves a better economic trajectory.
