Kolkata, 11 March (H.S.) : Tension prevailed in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal after a local BJP leader was shot at by unidentified miscreants on Wednesday morning. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Gangasagar Coastal Police Station.

According to police, the injured leader has been identified as Trilokesh Dhali. Despite sustaining serious bullet injuries, he narrowly escaped death and is currently undergoing treatment.

As per initial allegations, two miscreants arrived on a motorcycle and suddenly opened fire at Dhali before fleeing the spot. After being hit by the bullet, he collapsed on the spot in a pool of blood.

Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the gunshots and informed the police. He was rescued by police personnel and taken to Sagar Rural Hospital, where he is currently under treatment. Hospital sources said that his condition is stable but he remains under medical observation.

Police have started an investigation into the incident and launched a search operation to trace the accused. The exact motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, family members of the injured BJP leader have alleged a political conspiracy behind the attack. His son, Tridip Dhali, claimed that his father was likely to get a BJP ticket in the upcoming elections and that the attack was carried out to prevent his political rise.

However, Bapi Halder dismissed the allegations and said that blaming the Trinamool Congress for every incident has become a habit of the BJP. He suggested that the incident could be the result of internal factionalism within the BJP.

Police said all possible angles, including political rivalry and personal enmity, are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
