Kolkata, 11 March (H.S.) : West Bengal BJP chief spokesperson Debjit Sarkar on Wednesday claimed that the party’s ongoing Parivartan Yatra has received widespread public support across the state, indicating a growing demand for political change ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference at the party office in Salt Lake, Sarkar said the campaign has helped the BJP directly connect with millions of people and that public support for the party continues to grow.

Criticising a recent statement by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Sarkar described the remarks as irresponsible and alleged that such comments could deepen social divisions. He further accused the Chief Minister of engaging in appeasement politics and said the matter should be taken cognisance of by the Election Commission and the Supreme Court.

He also claimed that soon after the controversial statement, a BJP worker was shot in South 24 Parganas, linking the incident to the prevailing political atmosphere.

Outlining the party’s promises, Sarkar said that if the BJP comes to power in the 2026 Assembly elections, several key decisions would be taken within the first 45 days. These would include the constitution of the Seventh Pay Commission, payment of pending dearness allowance dues to state government employees, restoration of around 2.5 lakh abolished government posts and filling up nearly 6 lakh vacant positions. He also said that job aspirants would be given a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit.

He added that ensuring women’s safety and preventing illegal infiltration would be among the top priorities of a future BJP government.

Sarkar also accused the ruling Trinamool Congress government of being tainted by multiple corruption allegations, including those related to coal smuggling, lottery scams and alleged irregularities in government recruitment.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed rally at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on March 14, he urged people to attend the meeting in large numbers.

Concluding the press conference, Sarkar claimed that the political decline of the Trinamool Congress has begun and expressed confidence that voters would elect a BJP-led government in the 2026 elections.
