Kolkata, 10 March (H.S.) : A fire broke out at a cake manufacturing factory in the Anandapur area on the southern outskirts of Kolkata on Monday night, police said on Tuesday. No injuries have been reported so far, and an investigation into the incident has been initiated.

According to police, the factory of a well-known cake manufacturing company is located along the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. The incident occurred late on Monday night when work was underway inside the facility.

Workers noticed the fire and immediately rushed out of the factory in panic. The factory falls under the jurisdiction of the Anandapur police station. Police and the fire department were informed shortly after the incident, as the flames began spreading inside the premises.

Police and firefighters quickly reached the spot and cordoned off the area. Firefighters immediately began efforts to bring the blaze under control.

Three fire engines were deployed to douse the flames. After some time, the fire was brought under control. Preliminary suspicion suggests that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit.

Officials from the police and fire department have launched an investigation and are also verifying whether all necessary documents and safety measures at the factory were in place.

The incident has revived memories of a devastating fire earlier this year at the warehouse of Pushpanjali Decorators and an adjacent momo factory in the same Anandapur area.

That massive blaze, which broke out in January in an area known for several warehouses and factories, claimed the lives of 27 people, while another 27 were initially reported missing. Many victims were unable to escape after the fire spread rapidly inside the building.

Charred body parts were later recovered from the warehouse, and since identification was not possible, DNA tests were conducted. After the tests, the remains of 27 victims were handed over to their families. Three people were arrested in connection with that incident.
