Prayagraj,
10 March (HS): SHUATS Technical Officer Prateek Kumar advised farmers that the
weather in the district is expected to remain hot and dry over the next five
days, with no rain expected. During this period, maximum temperatures are
expected to hover around 35–38°C and minimum temperatures between 20–21°C,
which could rapidly deplete soil moisture. In this situation, farmers are
advised to irrigate their Rabi crops, including wheat, as needed and to use
mulching to maintain moisture in the fields. They also advised regular monitoring
of vegetable and pulse crops for pests and diseases, and to spray only
recommended pesticides if symptoms appear.
Given the
rising temperatures, animals should be provided with adequate shade and clean
water, and fish farmers should maintain the water level in their ponds.
According to experts, the current dry weather is favorable for sowing summer
mung beans and vegetables and preparing their fields. Therefore, farmers should
conduct agricultural work in the morning or evening.
