
Bhubaneswar, 10 March (H.S.): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday visited the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Exhibition held at the IDCO Exhibition Ground in Unit-III, Bhubaneswar, and announced that the exhibition will be extended by two more days. The event, which was scheduled to conclude today, will now continue until March 12.
The exhibition was inaugurated on March 6 during the visit of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
Organized by the Odisha Police, the exhibition aims to create public awareness about the provisions and impact of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. During his visit, the Chief Minister appreciated a street play presented to spread awareness about the new law and also praised the various stalls set up by the state’s Home Department, describing them as highly informative and well-designed.
Speaking to the media, Majhi said the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita reflects the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure security and justice for citizens. He stated that the exhibition is an important initiative to educate the public about the functioning and impact of the new legal framework.
The Chief Minister further noted that with the implementation of the new law, the colonial-era criminal justice framework in India has come to an end, paving the way for reforms aligned with the vision of a modern and independent India.
Highlighting the impact of the new legislation, Majhi said that Odisha’s conviction rate has increased by 87.6 percent by the end of 2025 since the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He also pointed out that Zero FIR registrations rose by 166 percent in 2025, indicating improved accessibility and responsiveness of the criminal justice system.
The Chief Minister added that the state government is taking several steps to strengthen policing and investigative capabilities. Foundation stones have been laid for the National Forensic Sciences University and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in the state. Additionally, the government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IIT Bhubaneswar to enhance police training in modern technology, and with Rashtriya Raksha University to provide advanced skill-based training to police personnel.
Senior officials of the Odisha Police were present at the exhibition. Students from various schools and law colleges also participated in the event.
