Kolkata, 10 March (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken charge of the state’s law department following a reshuffle in the allocation of portfolios, according to a late-night notification issued by the state’s Home and Hill Affairs Department.

As per the notification issued on Monday, Banerjee has retained the law department under her direct supervision after revising the distribution of work.

The department was earlier handled by minister Malay Ghatak, who will now look after only the labour department.

Ghatak had been holding charge of both the labour and law departments until the latest reallocation of portfolios.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leader Babul Supriyo will no longer serve as a member of the state cabinet after being recently elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Following his exit, the departments of Information Technology, Industrial Reconstruction and Public Enterprises have fallen vacant.

A senior official at the state secretariat said these departments would temporarily remain under the chief minister until fresh allocation is announced.

The official added that the state government is likely to take a formal decision on the redistribution of these portfolios soon.
