Kolkata, 10 March (H.S.): The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that her politics is based on appeasement and has adversely affected the state’s social fabric and national integration.
In a statement, BJP leaders claimed that the ruling All India Trinamool Congress government has, for over a decade, used the minority community for “vote-bank politics” instead of taking meaningful steps for its empowerment.
The party alleged that the state government has failed to take adequate measures for the social, economic and educational development of minorities.
State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said the administrative and social situation in the state has been affected under the Trinamool Congress rule and several issues have emerged due to the government’s policies.
The statement also expressed concern over alleged infiltration and demographic changes in the bordering areas of the state, claiming that the situation requires serious attention to maintain law and order and social balance.
The BJP further alleged that the state government has been opposing the Centre’s policies on the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens in a bid to derive political advantage.
The party said the upcoming elections in West Bengal are not merely about a change in power but also about the state’s future and development.
It claimed that the BJP is committed to building a “secure and developed West Bengal”.
There was no immediate reaction from the ruling Trinamool Congress to the allegations.
